Horsey Christmas List

Ya’ll know that song, “My Grownup Christmas Wish” by Amy Grant? The chorus goes:

So here’s my lifelong wish,
My grownup Christmas list,
Not for myself,
But for a world in need.

It’s been sort of running through my head lately but with sliiiiiightly different words.

So here’s my lifelong wish,
My horsey Christmas list,
Not for myself,
But for a new pony.

All joking aside, let’s get serious and talk about all the horse-related stuff I put on my Christmas list this year! You know, the really important things in life.

Mountain Horse Sovereign Tall Boots
(*ahem* Just in case someone in my family/Santa still needs an idea for me, I wear a 9 Regular Tall *ahem*)
These boots have gotten glowing reviews from a number of bloggers I follow. And they’re pretty.

My current tall boots are amazing but they’re getting a little tired. They’ve dropped a bit (or a lot) too far and the stitching is getting loose in places. They’re the most comfortable boots I’ve ever put on my feet and if I could I’d just re-buy them but they’re a discontinued style (Ariat Volant Front Zips – also I’m seriously peeved at Past Me for not getting the Tall size and the version with red piping because those would look DOPE on XC).

All this to say, I don’t NEED new tall boots right now, but I WANT these specific tall boots. Right now.

Flannel Standing Wraps
This is a very utilitarian gift but I would love them. I have stretchy black wraps at the moment but I am slightly neurotic about the idea of wrapping too tightly or unevenly and causing a bowed tendon. Some lovely old-school flannel wraps would be amazing. They don’t stretch so the worry about tightness and unevenness is lessened.

A Charlie Mackesy Print
Okay so technically these don’t exist yet. But if you don’t follow @charliemackesy on Instagram, you are missing out big time. When his horse and boy pieces become available as prints, I want one. Or many. Maybe I’ll decorate my whole house with them. I love them so much. They’re so beautiful and poignant and simple.

Wool Arctic Horse Riding Skirt
Okay, so our indoor arena is insulated now, so my need for this is less. On the other hand, Duke is FINALLY body clipped so maybe riding him in a skirt-that-doubles-as-a-quarter-sheet would be still be good. I don’t know, I’m mostly just trying to convince myself I’d still use one. Mostly they look awesome and I would definitely wear it for winter hacking and looking like a total badass.

So badass, right? // Photo from http://www.arctichorsegear.com

Roeckl Gloves
The reviews are great, I think they look nice and I typically don’t buy myself high quality gloves. I balk at the price of them and just can’t ever seem to justify spending $50 on gloves. But if someone else bought me $50 gloves I would be very happy indeed. Especially this model, the Lona, which comes in black with red piping. Again, #xccolorsforlife.

HandsOn Grooming Gloves
I think Duke and I would both love these. He gets very itchy, and my arms get very tired trying to scratch those itches using the regular curry comb! Plus his legs are always gross and he loves having his face curried gently. Someone at the barn has and I love how they can get into the hard-to-reach spots better than a rubber curry.

And of course…

An OTTB would be great, along with monthly board and ongoing farrier/vet, and might as well throw in an emergency fund as well.

I’m liking the look of this guy from CANTER. However the name (“Assaulter”) would have to be changed to something less…aggressive.

However I wouldn’t be sad if this mare from CANTER showed up instead…or this gelding from New Vocations

I don’t think that’s too much to ask, really.

What’s on your horsey wish list this year?

  1. Hahaha the hole in my boots has slowly progressed to a full out boot cave…. sooo those are on my list. Also, part of me really wants a 2 yr old prospect to work with in 2019… but that is a RIDICULOUS want that has actually 0 practical sense to it.

  2. IF someone gives me an OTTB I will gladly give it one of you! 🙂 so there is that. Anyone want a fat buckskin for Xmas/ that i can give you 🙂 HA HA

I have not bought the gloves either so would not mine them being under my tree. My husband is useless even if i give him hints or a list. He will either give me cash or just tell me to go buy stuff. No Imagination AT ALL!

  3. Gloves are worth the money, can confirm (also I have the black with red piping for my own barn colors and they look totally badass). Also the tall boots. BUY ALL THE THINGS!!
Can my list just be show fees? That’s more than enough for even my hypothetical rich adopted grandfather (had to ditch the rich husband scheme since the whole wedding thing happened).

  4. Hopefully RW has a Christmas sale so you can get a pair 😉 I’ve started wearing my black boots and they’re just as wonderful so far as my brown ones. And Roeckl’s winter gloves so far are great too! Those red and black ones tho are to die for ❤ I mean, I'd love a gifted OTTB too sooooooo I agree that we need to win the lottery LOL

  5. lol every time my horse goes mildly lame it takes every ounce of strength not to go immediately window shopping again haha…. tho then again, if someone was gonna offer me a new truck, that might be a different story!

  6. I asked for a glorified radio flyer wagon to use as a feed bucket cart so there is that? And tractor supply gift cards because I need buckets (and I want the colors I want) and bucket hanging stuff. Exciting, right? I think your list sounds like more fun!
