September’s 10 Questions from Viva Carlos

(I know, I know. It’s October. Just…go with it.)

I’ve been seeing a bunch of these going around lately. Thanks to Viva Carlos for the questions!

Capture1. Is there something you don’t like about your riding?
I’ve been re-learning my two-point position to be lighter on the horse’s back; generally it’s pretty secure but sometimes over a jump my leg pops back and my torso tips forward onto the neck. I really hate it.

2. Does your horse buck?
Twinkle will buck occasionally when she’s really cranky or worked up about something. I don’t think Drifter is a bucker (*knocks on wood*). Lydia sometimes throws these really half-hearted bucks at the canter that barely even feel different than her gait.

3. Is your horse head shy?
Not unless you bring the clippers close by!

4. Favorite barn chore to do?
Setting up and taking down jumps. (Although I don’t dislike any of it, really.)

5. How many times do you ride a week?
Depends on the week. Lately it’s been around 4-5 times per week. Sometimes it’s less when work is busy, sometimes it’s more when a show is coming up.

6. Who is your favorite pro rider?
I’m going with Dom Schramm, purely because I love Evention TV.

7. If one pro rider could train you for one day who would it be?
Boyd Martin.

8. Favorite Facial Marking?
I like quirky facial markings like a broken star/snip or a crooked stripe.

9. Leg Markings or No Leg Markings?
No preference. Although I do like a horse with no white at all. Then again, I’ve ridden a few really loud paints that I’ve loved, too.

10. Ever broken anything falling off?
No, and I hope to keep it that way. (*Knocks on wood, again.*)

  1. I’m partial to chrome, but I think there is nothing as stylish as a solid horse with a symmetrical little white star.
I would love to clinic with Boyd Martin as well! The story of him and Neville Bardos has me tearing up every time.
