In case you didn’t know, there is an entire roster of horse-related content you can listen to, for free, anytime. Eventing shows. Driving shows. Racing shows. Jumping shows. Dressage shows. Health shows, humor shows, rodeo shows, horsemanship shows, literally any show you could want.
Allow me to introduce you to the Horse Radio Network.
Did I mention these are all podcasts? This month has been designated as #TryPod month…as in try a podcast. So I’m sharing these awesome shows, because I know for a fact that horse people will love a new way to get more of a horsey fix, especially since you can listen while doing non-horse-related things like driving, dishes, laundry, etc.
Don’t know what a podcast is? It’s basically a piece of audio content that you can either stream or download for free using an app on your phone (or on your computer, but using your phone allows you more flexibility for listening wherever you want). If you have an iPhone, you can use the free, already-installed app called “Podcasts.” You can also branch out into other apps. I like one called Overcast. If you have an Android-based phone, well, I can’t help you there because I don’t have one. #sorrynotsorry
Once you’ve opened the app, just find the search bar and type in Horse Radio Network. I highly recommend starting with Horses in the Morning. Give it a few days to a week to get to know the hosts’ style. Once you are familiar, I promise you will love following along with such things as Jamie’s chicken obsession (and her husband’s less-than-thrilled reactions) and mustang endeavors, and Glenn’s pony Scooter’s various exploits.
There are podcasts for any interest. Seriously. They’re like the Oprah of horse-related radio shows. YOU get a show! YOU get a show! EVERYBODY GETS A SHOOOOOW!
Fun fact: I was on an episode of Horses in the Morning about 2 years ago when Chelsie and I went to see the Live Oak International. We stayed with the the owner/producer couple who runs the whole network and went on to recap the experience. Let’s just say, I got to tell about my “That Girl” moment of the time when I was fully starstruck by Cian O’Connor and Beezie Madden. It is complete with embarrassing theme music. Oh heck, here’s the link to that episode; skip to about the 10 minute mark to hear Chelsie, and I go on right after her.
Enjoy! And make sure to let me know which HRN shows you get into!
